ISAIL Congratulates the Government of India & Sh. Sridhar Vembu for launching 3 Centers of Excellence in Artificial Intelligence

Dear ISAIL Members and Supporters,

We are thrilled to share a significant milestone in India's AI journey. The Government of India has launched three AI Centers of Excellence (CoEs) focused on healthcare, agriculture, and sustainable cities. These CoEs will be hosted at leading institutions:

  • CoE in Sustainable Cities at IIT Kanpur

  • CoE in Agriculture at IIT Ropar

  • CoE in Healthcare jointly at IIT Delhi and AIIMS Delhi

The CoEs aim to create a robust ecosystem by fostering interdisciplinary research, encouraging the development of cutting-edge AI applications, and delivering scalable solutions for pressing issues in their respective domains.

We extend our gratitude to Shri Sridhar Vembu, CEO of Zoho, for his leadership in overseeing this initiative as co-chair of the apex committee. His vision and guidance will be instrumental in driving AI innovation and adoption.

The launch of these CoEs opens up exciting opportunities for AI standardization initiatives by ISAIL. By bringing together academia, industry, and startups, the CoEs will contribute to establishing best practices, guidelines, and standards for responsible AI development and deployment.

Key areas where the CoEs can contribute to AI standardization include data governance, algorithm transparency, safety and robustness, and ethical considerations.

ISAIL is eager to collaborate with the CoEs, government bodies, and industry stakeholders to drive these efforts forward.

We congratulate the Government of India, the host institutions, and all those involved in making this initiative a reality. ISAIL believes that these CoEs have the potential to transform India's AI landscape and create a positive impact on society.

As an organisation committed to the responsible development and governance of AI, ISAIL will continue to support and engage with un-hyped initiatives that promote AI innovation while prioritising ethics, safety, and inclusivity.

We look forward to working together to build a thriving AI ecosystem that benefits all citizens.
